Transitioning the Body to Springtime

Today marks the first day of spring and many of us just want to get outside! Transitioning from sitting on the couch most evenings through the winter to the higher-energy activities of spring is challenging. It’s hard for our bodies to move from low energy to high energy that quickly, so be patient with yourself. Here are a few low energy activities to help you start lifting the winter blues:
  1. Take a drive with your window cracked open and listen to your favorite upbeat music.
  2. Walk through your yard or garden for 15 minutes.
  3. Take a short walk downtown, visiting local stores.
  4. Make a warm-weather meal, maybe it’s grilling on your deck or making fresh lemonade.
  5. Pick one thing to clean. Do not take on the whole house, just one thing to freshen up your environment.
For those of us who have to spend four or five snowy months indoors, our body’s energy doesn't immediately shift to the warm weather mindset we might have. Again, be patient as your body starts to warm up and gain energy. And happy spring!
